Local elected officials and transportation agency representatives from the Interstate 405 and State Route 167 corridor will reconvene as the Executive Advisory Group from 9-11 a.m. tomorrow at Kirkland’s Heritage Hall.
The primary purpose of the meeting is to review progress and discuss next steps for the I-405 Master Plan, a balanced, multimodal strategy designed to relieve congestion, improve reliability, and add capacity throughout the corridor. Acting Transportation Secretary Roger Millar will serve as chairman of the group, as members discuss future corridor priorities and receive updates on regional projects from Sound Transit and King County representatives.
“With more than one million people expected to move to the Puget Sound region in the next 25 years, we need to strategically move forward with our Master Plan improvements and plan for a multimodal transportation system that can handle future growth,” Millar said. “This meeting is an important opportunity to gather our regional agency partners, share lessons learned, set priorities, and advance these projects.”
Representatives from the Washington State Department of Transportation will provide group members with an update on progress toward completing the Master Plan, including a status report on upcoming corridor projects funded by last year’s Connecting Washington transportation package. They will also deliver a six-month report on the performance and operations of express toll lanes between Bellevue and Lynnwood.
In addition, representatives from Sound Transit and King County will deliver presentations about several topics of interest to I-405 corridor stakeholders, including the Sound Transit 3 proposal, the King County Metro Long Range Plan, the Eastside Rail Corridor Regional Trail, and transit performance in the corridor.
Heritage Hall is located at 203 Market Street in downtown Kirkland. Members of the public are welcome to attend and provide brief comments.
