Longtime Bothell resident Harry Johnson died Aug. 1. He was 89.
In 1998, the city of Bothell proclaimed July 6 as “Harry Johnson, Champion Fiddler Day.”
The proclamation read:
WHEREAS, Harry Johnson has been a valuable citizen of Bothell for 22 years; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to recognize the talents and accomplishments of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Harry Johnson began playing the fiddle as a child and continued off and on throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Harry Johnson began entering fiddling contests in 1972, winning numerous trophies and plaques, and purposefully taking his talent and skill to greater heights; and
WHEREAS, Harry Johnson’s talent and commitment to professional fiddling earned him first place in the senior-senior division of the Washington State Fiddler’s Competition in 1991, 1993, 1995, and 1997; and
WHEREAS, Harry Johnson’s skill and dedication to his art have led to his music being recorded for the Smithsonian, to be preserved for the enjoyment of others in posterity; and
NOW, THEREFORE, in recognition of and appreciation for the fiddling talent of local resident Harry Johnson, I , Debbie Treen, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hearby proclaim July 6, 1998 HARRY JOHNSON, CHAMPION FIDDLER, DAY
