A free pre-screening of “Gen Silent” will take place from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E. Riverside Drive, Bothell.
Award-winning director and documentary filmmaker Stu Maddox’s film reveals how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elders, who fought the first battles for equality, now face fear about discrimination again. “Thousands are dying earlier than their straight counterparts because they are afraid to ask for help,” the film’s press release reads. “But there is a growing number of individuals trying to build awareness and wake up the long-term and health-care industries to their plight.”
A discussion will follow the film with guest panelists:
• Marsha Botzer — founder, Ingersoll Gender Center, co-founder Equal Rights Washington
• David Haack — founder, Northwest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Senior Providers Network
• Pastor Michael Smith — St. Paul United Methodist Church
• Susie Starrfield — Snohomish County Long Term Care and Aging
• Gloria Stancich — Old Lesbians Organizing for Change
• Susan Snyder — Vice president Senior Services of Seattle
