Family fun is on tap at this Sunday’s RiverFest

Billed as “Family Fun and Then Some,” Bothell’s 10th annual RiverFest end-of-summer celebration is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 29 in downtown Bothell between Main and Northeast 185th streets.

As usual, the event will feature a large inflatable play space for younger visitors, a car show, the Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce Merchants Market, a pie-eating contest, other free entertainment and, of course, plenty to eat and drink.

According to the city, all-day RiverFest events include:

• Those inflatable amusements for the kids, set up at 101st Avenue Northeast in the Bothell City Hall parking lot.

• Sponsored by Brooks Biddle Chevrolet, the annual car show will stretch down Main.

• A Hobby and Volunteer Expo, featuring local nonprofit organizations and clubs, will also be set up at 101st Avenue.

• The City of Bothell Show and Tell, featuring city and local resources, will take place at Bothell City Hall.

• Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the chamber’s Crafts and Merchants Market will sit at Northeast 183rd Street. Last year, the chamber sold out some 50 booths to artisans, food vendors and various merchants.

If previous years are any indication, the market will feature plenty of the usual fair-type munchies such as elephant ears, hot dogs and kettle corn.

Also, for the more gastronomically adventurous, the annual pie-eating contest takes place at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of 101st Avenue and Northeast 183rd Street.

In terms of entertainment, the Seattle Seahawk “Blue Thunder” drum line performs at noon, also at the intersection of 101st Avenue and Northeast 183rd. Billed as the ultimate ’80s concert experience, “That ’80s Show” gives a free performance at 1 p.m. in the police department parking lot.

All RiverFest activities are free and open to the public, though vendors will charge for their wares.
