The following is a release from EvergreenHealth hospital:
The EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners recently awarded Donald C. “Chuck” Brockway, Jr., with its annual Community Service Award, which recognizes the profound impact of individuals on enhancing the health and well-being of the community, and for their dedication to serving the EvergreenHealth mission.
Brockway, who passed away in April 2014, is survived by his wife Vicky Nollette, who accepted the honor in his memory. The EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners presented the recognition at its public meeting on Feb. 17.
Brockway—known to his friends and colleagues as “Chuck”—was an active and engaged participant in the EvergreenHealth family, having served as a Community Advisor from 2003-2014 and as an EvergreenHealth Foundation Trustee for four years. He served a key role on the 2004 Evergreen Bond Levy Campaign Committee to support construction of the signature building on the EvergreenHealth campus, known today as the “Silver Tower.”
“Chuck created a legacy of compassion, joy and service,” said Al DeYoung, Chair of the EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners. “His wit, wisdom and caring spirit left an indelible impression on every life he touched and was a gift to all.”
Brockway consistently and passionately advocated for service to the community and “walked the talk,” according to EvergreenHealth commissioners. He was a Kirkland Rotarian for 28 years and coached the Miracle League baseball team, encouraging everyone he knew to participate as a volunteer for this remarkable group of individuals.
As a longtime leader in the banking community, Brockway was highly respected and known for the personal relations he developed with co-workers and clients, serving as a mentor to many.
EvergreenHealth’s Community Service Award, established in 1998, recognizes individuals or organizations that exemplify leadership, have a profound impact on enhancing the health and well-being of the community, and consistently demonstrate service and commitment to helping EvergreenHealth achieve its mission toadvance community health through dedication to high quality, safe, compassionate and cost-effective health care.
Previous Community Service Award honorees include volunteers, health care activists and physicians.
