County animal control officers say they still are investigating an alleged incident involving the attack of one dog by at least one other, larger animal in the 1900 block of 65th Avenue Northeast in Kenmore. The incident allegedly took place Nov. 18.
According to Kenmore police reports, officers were called to the scene about 3:30 p.m. Witnesses told police and the Reporter that one large dog had grabbed onto the neck of a smaller dog being walked by a resident.
“Nothing I could say will ever explain the horror of witnessing first hand how viciously these dogs attacked,” said resident Jane Marshall.
In comments sent to the Reporter, Marshall said she was in her home and heard loud barking and screams coming from across the street. She went outside and saw the alleged attack in progress. Marshall said the owner of the smaller dog was sitting on the street crying and attempting to keep a second leashed dog she had been walking from joining in the reported fray.
“Witnessing a young high-school-aged girl lying on the sidewalk in front of my home, crying, screaming and emotionally tortured, is something I will never forget,” Marshall added.
The owner of the allegedly attacking dog also was on the scene, according to both witness and police reports, and was attempting to control his dog. Attempts to reach the owner of the allegedly attacking dog were unsuccessful.
Police and witness reports vary a bit from this point, but the attacking dog apparently was struck with a pipe by a neighbor and hit again with a piece of wood and eventually let go of the smaller dog’s neck.
Police reports say the smaller dog was injured, though the extent of those injuries was not given.
Although Marshall referred to the dogs as pit bulls, Kenmore police reports state they are Argentine dogs. The dogs appear to strongly resemble pit bulls and may belong to the same canine family.
