A 2001 legal agreement for management and cleanup of contaminated soil and groundwater at the Kenmore Industrial Park site in Kenmore continues to protect public health and the environment, according to a periodic review by the Department of Ecology.
Periodic reviews are conducted every five years by the department for sites that have Environmental Covenants and/or Institutional Controls. The review is intended to examine the effectiveness of cleanup activities and to assure the continued protection of human health and the environment.
The cleanup actions completed at the Site appear to be protective of human health and the environment. The Restrictive Covenant for the property is in place and continues to be effective in protecting public health and the environment from exposure to hazardous substances and protecting the integrity of the cleanup action.
The Periodic Review Report describes the current site conditions and summarizes the site compliance monitoring results for 2009 through 2012. The report includes the deferred industrial maintenance work, soil sampling results, and near shore sediment sampling results.
The department invites written comments on the periodic review through May 31. Send written comments to Maura O’Brien at maura.obrien@ecy.wa.gov or mail them to 3190 160th Ave SE, Bellevue, WA 98008.
