Democrats lead in 1st Legislative District

Derek Stanford and Shelley Kloba were successful in their re-election bids.

Preliminary results for the Nov. 6 general election came in around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Both state House seats in the 1st Legislative District were up for election this year. The 1st district covers parts of King and Snohomish counties, including Bothell, Mountlake Terrace and Kirkland.

Incumbent state Rep. Derek Stanford (D-Bothell) ran against Josh Colver, a Republican from Bothell, to retain position 1. Stanford was leading with 69 percent of the vote to Colver’s 31 percent in initial returns.

Debra Blodgett, chair of the Snohomish County Republican Party, challenged position 2 incumbent and Democrat Rep. Shelley Kloba, a former Kirkland City councilmember. Kloba was leading 64 percent to 36 percent as of election night.

All results are according to the secretary of state’s website.

Washington votes by mail and ballots can be postmarked as late as Election Day, meaning results could change in the following days. Check back this week for updated results.
