The city of Kenmore received a grant from the King Conservation District to restore native plants and wildlife habitat in Swamp Creek Park on the Sammamish River.

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 24 to help pick up trash and remove invasive weeds. For those who are interested, there will be a nature walk with a professional biologist from the city’s consulting firm ESA Adolfson to learn about the park’s plants, animals and ecology.

The event will happen rain or shine, and all volunteers will need to bring waterproof boots, work gloves and gardening tools such as rakes, trowels and pruning shears, along with a sack lunch. Water and light snacks will be provided.

Individuals, families and community groups are encouraged to participate; children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must be registered; registration prior to the event is recommended, but will be accepted the day of event. To register, contact events@ci.kenmore.wa.us or (425) 398-8900. Free event T-shirts will be provided to registered volunteers on the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
