The City of Bothell declared the week of Feb. 9 to Feb. 15 as Undergraduate Research Week.

During the February 4th, the University of Washington Bothell staff and undergraduate students joined Mayor Joshua Freed as he issued the Undergraduate Research Week proclamation, the first of his tenure.

UW Bothell Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Carolyn Brennan participated in the ceremony and says she is thrilled that the City of Bothell and UW Bothell are of one accord on the importance of undergraduate research.

“More than three quarters of our faculty engage undergraduate students in research,” she said. “The City of Bothell understands the importance of research to the exceptional academic experience on the UW Bothell campus.”

Undergraduate Research Week on the UW Bothell campus will engage students, faculty and the community by showcasing some of the important research work and providing information on research opportunities.

The week’s highlights include a public talk, “Incorporating High Impact Research into the Undergraduate Curriculum,” featuring Tim Elgren, Ph.D., professor of chemistry at Hamilton College and former president of the Council on Undergraduate Research. Also, faculty and staff will provide special tours of Discovery Hall science and academic building, the Sarah Simonds Green Conservatory and the North Creek Wetlands.
