The Bothell Police Department is the spot for this Saturday’s local National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., citizens can dispose of medications that they no longer need. This helps prevent potential abuse by others, and provides a system of destroying the household medications by way of incineration, which is less likely to contaminate water systems.
The event is in coordination with the Snohomish Health District; Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb is the chairman of the Board of Health.
Citizens can also drop off unwanted and unused medications, including prescription narcotics, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Bothell Police Department. All drugs will be deposited into a secured collection box, which will be routinely emptied and the medications destroyed by law enforcement. Citizens are not permitted to drop off illegal narcotics through this program.
People dropping off medications are not asked to provide their names, only ZIP codes for research purposes.
The Bothell Police Department’s drug take-back program is one of the most successful in the region, according to its Web site. In 2010, the Bothell Police Department collected more than 440 pounds of returned medicine, making it No. 1 out of 27 law-enforcement collection sites in Snohomish County.
The Bothell Police Department is located at 18410 101st Ave. N.E.
