Police still are investigating what official reports called a case of child luring involving an eight-year-old girl.
The incident took place about 5:20 p.m. Oct. 2 on 61st Avenue NE.
According to the reports from the King County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was playing with two friends behind the apartment building where she lives.
The two companions had wondered off, leaving the girl alone. She said she heard footsteps from behind her and turned to see an unknown man approaching.
The girl said the man yelled that he needed children and tried to grab her leg. The victim was able to run away, but the man pursued her.
After an unknown distance, the girl said she tripped and fell and was approached by a neighbor, who asked if she needed help. The suspect had disappeared.
The girl said she told the neighbor she needed to keep running and the woman went back into her home. When the neighbor disappeared, the suspect reappeared and once more began chasing the victim.
Sheriff reports say the girl eventually was able to lose her pursuer by hiding between a car and a tree. At that point, the suspect gave up the chase and left in what was described as a bright blue, two-door pick up truck.
The victim did not get a license plate number, but ran home and told a parent what had happened, at which point police were notified.
The girl described her attacker as a caucasianmale, about six feet tall and around 130 pounds. He was wearing a plain, red hooded sweatshirt with black sweat pants. He had short brown hair and a goatee. His age was estimated as between 30 and 40. The victim told police the man was wearing sunglasses, but they fell off at one point and she said he had blue-green eyes.
