Two sections of the Burke-Gilman Trail will be repaired this weekend, leading to brief detours and partial trail closures.
The Swamp Creek bridge near Northeast 175th Street will be [was; for print]closed for a few hours at some point between Tuesday and Friday as Northwest Asphalt removes and replaces around four feet of asphalt which has ruptured due to settlement. A detour onto Northeast 175th Street will be in place during repairs.
Near 84th Avenue Northeast, 185 linear feet of asphalt will be replaced along the edge of the trail, repairing a slump in the trail due to soil erosion.
King County Parks representative Chris Erickson said as the trail sits on a hillside, it is slowly moving downhill at a ‘glacial’ pace.
One half of the trail will be closed at a time to keep the trail open. Bike riders will be asked to dismount while construction occurs.
“Safety first, they should dismount when asked to dismount,” Erickson said.
Repairs have been needed for around five months, Erickson said, but the weather has not allowed for it.
This week marks the first window in that time the weather has been favorable.
The project will cost roughly $35,000, Erickson said.
