Bothell’s Denholm is a semifinalist in ‘The Settlers of Catan’ world-championship qualifier

Fans of “The Settlers of Catan,” including semifinalist Mark Denholm of Bothell, will be heading to Indianapolis, Ind., Aug. 5-8 to compete in the World Wide Catan Championship Qualifier 2010.

“The Settlers of Catan” is an award-winning, international best-selling game with more than 15 million copies in print. The players in the game represent settlers establishing colonies on the island of Catan. Players build settlements, cities and roads to connect them as they settle the island.

The winner of the tournament will head to Germany in September to represent the United States in the Worldwide Catan Championship Tournament. Contestants from around the world who have won a national qualifier will be competing in Burg Wildenstein Castle in Leibertingen, Germany, Sept. 17-20 for the title of Worldwide Catan Champion.

Through a series of regional pre-qualifiers, Denholm and five others have already earned a spot into the semifinal round of the Indianapolis tournament.

The Worldwide Catan Championship tournament is held every two years.
