Bothell’s Binary Christmas is lighting up the holidays

Once again, Bothell’s Johan Jorna is lighting up his family’s home and a neighbor’s abode (12313 N.E. 165th St.) for the holidays with Binary Christmas through Jan. 9.

From 5-11 p.m. nightly, the two houses will be decked out with more than 20,000 computer-controlled Christmas lights synchronized to music. The display includes leaping deer, 25-foot-tall lightning pillars, a 22-foot tree with individually controlled strands, a peace sign and an all-new 10-foot heart shape.

This year, mostly newer, more energy efficient LED strands are used. This enables both houses to transition colors, as well as intensity in time to the music. The upbeat music includes “Wizards in Winter,” “Christmas Eve Sarajevo,” “Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, Prelude 12/24,” “Sandstorm” and “We Will Rock You.” There will also be surprise appearances by Santa and his elves.

Jorna will also collect donations of nonperishable food for the Hopelink food bank. Upon arrival at the display, tune your radio to 88.3 FM to hear the music that the lights are synchronized to.
