A Bothell woman faces second-degree murder charges for allegedly striking her elderly mother in the head repeatedly with a glass mug on Oct. 27.
It was not the first time that Terie S. Davidson, 42, allegedly assaulted her mother, Lila, according to probable cause documents filed in Snohomish Superior Court on Nov. 16. Davidson has three prior domestic violence convictions, including for assaulting her mother in May and violating a no contact order in September. That vulnerable adult protection order was filed on June 1 to protect Lila against her daughter.
Bothell police responded to the incident the morning of Oct. 27 when Davidson called police to report she needed psychiatric care. Police confronted Davidson, who was standing on the front porch of her mobile home at the Canyon Mobile Estates in Bothell.
She told police they should go inside and said, “it’s bad,” according to court documents. An officer had to kick down the front door after the woman went inside to put on her shoes and locked the door.
Officers also noticed blood on Davidson’s hands, and saw red marks on her socks, the documents continue.
Police found Lila, 81, lying on the floor and convulsing in the doorway between the master bedroom and the bathroom. They noted a large amount of blood next to her head. Lila died soon after at the scene.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office determined she died of a blunt impact to the head and ruled her death a homicide on Nov. 13. During the investigation, police found a glass mug with a Mariner’s logo on it on the kitchen counter with blood and bone fragments on the exterior.
Davidson was transported to Evergreen Hospital for psychiatric issues. Police later asked her why she was living with her mother in light of an outstanding no contact order between she and Lila. She replied, “I have nowhere else to live,” the documents continue. She added, “I took a chance at being there and I harmed her.”
Bail was set for $2 million on Oct. 31 at the Snohomish County District Court, due to the nature of the offense, the prior assaults and domestic violence convictions, the woman’s mental health issues and the likelihood she may commit a violent offense.
Davidson is expected to appear in Snohomish Superior Court on Jan. 4, 2013 for an order to set her trial date.
