A Bothell woman is among six seniors to be honored with the Golden Heart Inspired Living Award at the Nordic Heritage Museum.

Marilyn Cooley will receive the award for giving “outstanding contributions” to the community. Foss Home and Village will be honoring the seniors at an appreciation reception at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11.

“The Seattle Mayor’s Office has declared Oct. 6-12 as Senior Appreciation Week,” said Erin Mullins of Foss Home and Village. “Therefore, seven older adults will be recognized for their compassion, generosity and community involvement.  Whether it is starting a non-profit, delivering food to the food bank, serving as a hospice volunteer, or making dinner for 70 people each week these extraordinary older adults are an inspiration.”

The seniors were selected from nominations by senior centers, senior living communities, churches and individuals. The event is held to recognize active seniors, to encourage other seniors to remain active, to build admiration for community seniors and to foster public advocacy for their needs.

“The older population is often overlooked in our society because they are seen as people who no longer contribute to the economic growth of our communities,” said Mullins. “Yet, without these seniors’ many ongoing contributions as volunteers and their lifelong legacy of community building, our city would not be as enriched as it is today.”
