Bothell High School senior Sam McPherson announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he will play football next year for Eastern Washington University.
“Excited to announce that I’ll be furthering my education and football career at Eastern Washington University #GoEags,” he said in the Twitter post.
Eastern Washington University has one of the top NCAA Division-I AA football programs in the nation. The Eagles won the AA National Championship in 2010 and a conference title four out of the last five seasons.
McPherson, who was the 4A KingCo leagues Offensive Player of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year during the 2014 season, was sidelined during the playoffs after tearing his ACL against Bethel High School. McPherson was a big reason the Cougars finished the regular season undefeated and one of the top running backs in the league this season with 1,079 yards in league play. The Cougars went on to win the state title with a perfect 14-0 record. He was also voted All-State defensive back last year.
McPherson played defensive back and running back for the Cougars, and was one of the best kick returners in the state. It is unclear what position he will focus on in college.
