A Bothell man, who has been named a suspect in the death of his wife, was released from the Snohomish County Jail on Saturday.

Alan Justin Smith was arrested on Friday for obstruction of justice after Bothell police served a search warrant attempting to obtain his passport. Smith refused to turn over the passport.

“I know that he bailed out of jail on Saturday and turned over his passport,” said Sgt. Cedric Collins, a spokesperson with the Bothell Police Department.

Alan Smith’s wife Susann Smith was found dead in her home in February with defensive wounds and naked from the waist down. The couple was going through a divorce at the time of the murder and have two children together, who are in the custody of Washington State Child Protective Services.

Bothell police also served a second search warrant on Friday for another item of interest pertaining to Alan Smith.

“They served another one for his footprint,” said Collins.

Search warrant documents obtained by the Reporter in February stated that bloody footprints were found at the scene of the crime. Collins could not comment on the timing of the footprint search warrant.

He also could not comment on the status of DNA tests conducted on a bicycle that Bothell police believe may be involved in the murder.

The Bothell Police Department on Monday requested a copy of any interviews Alan Smith or his girlfriend Love Thai have given to local media, specifically the interview Seattle television station KOMO conducted with Thai as a part of the investigation.
