A little girl who lives up the street just smiles at the 100,000 holiday lights that illuminate Jeff Keener’s front yard.

Keener says the girl comes by with her parents almost every night to see the spectacle, including about 40 inflatable and plastic reindeer, snowmen and Santa figurines sprawled on his one-acre property.

On a recent evening, Keener, an assistant wrestling coach at Inglemoor High, came out of his Bothell home carrying a bucket of candy canes and handed them out to some delighted onlookers.

One couple got out of their car and walked the 300-foot circular driveway amidst the glow of warm lights, Christmas trees and holiday tunes like “Jingle Bell Rock.” A radiant Christmas counter gleamed “15” in big red numbers.

“We’re maxed out on power,” laughed Keener, pointing to his dry river bed that has 6,000 lights alone. This is the fifth year Keener has displayed the lights and he adds more each year.

When he was a kid, his parents were “big on Christmas,” hanging up the holiday lights and making a big scene, he says. His parents have since both died, but Keener keeps their memory alive with his holiday display. His collection even includes a large plastic snowman he’s had since he was 14.

Keener and fiance, Candice Bradford, started setting up the holiday display in October.

“People think I’m crazy when I’m out here in rain gear,” he said, noting his display runs through the end of December.

Next year, he plans to add a manger scene that will feature wise men made out of handmade dummies.

He welcomes the community to enjoy the lights on week nights from 6-10 p.m. and weekends from 6-11 p.m. His house is located conveniently off Interstate 405 at 16522 112th Lane N.E., Bothell.
