Bothell man arrested for allegedly exposing himself in local park

Bothell man, 70, arrested for exposing himself and masturbating in a public park.

A Bothell man, 70, was arrested at his home Sept. 3 for allegedly exposing himself and masturbating in a public park just outside of Kenmore.

The man was caught on camera by a woman who was in the O.O. Denny Park with an 11-year-old niece. The King County Sheriff’s Office circulated a censored photo in local media in an attempt to find the suspect.

Denny Park sits in unincorporated King County, in the 12400 block of Holmes Point Drive in Kirkland’s designated growth or annexation area.

The picture was taken Aug. 5. County law-enforcement officials eventually compared the snapshot with photos of previously arrested exposure offenders and came up with a match, said sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart.

“It was really pretty easy,” Urquhart added.

Police believe the suspect in the Aug. 5 incident pled guilty to two previous counts of exposing himself. He reportedly received a suspended sentence in each case. But Urquhart said because of the previous convictions, the sheriff’s office likely will recommend the man be charged with a felony this time around.

As of the deadline for this issue, the suspect had not yet been formally charged and Urquhart declined to identify the man. The suspect was sitting in a King County jail and Urquhart said it was unclear when he might first face a judge.

According to a previous release from Urquhart, the Aug. 5 incident happened as follows:

Two women, ages 63 and 40, were at the park with their niece. They allegedly saw the suspect watching them and fondling himself, his hands in the pockets of his shorts.

According to Urquhart, one of the women confronted the man, but instead of stopping, he dropped his pants and continued to act out. That was when one of the victims took a photo of the suspect.

Urquhart alleges that even having his picture taken didn’t deter the suspect, who left the park only after being told police were being called. He reportedly drove off in a blue Ford station wagon.
