Two marijuana retail stores in Bothell and one store in Kenmore are likely to open, according to lottery results released today by the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

Kenmore was not assigned a retail outlet by the liquor control board, so the 10 applicants had to participate in the lottery for the 11 King County “at-large” retail licenses. Around 20 people applied in Bothell.

The lottery produced the following applicants in ranked order for Bothell: Recreational Marijuna King; 41. Cannabliss, 1912 201st Place SE ste 202; 52. The following applicants for Kenmore are all competing for the same address, 6323 NE Bothell Way. The hopeful businesses in ranked order are: Green Place; 12. Shade’s Green Emporium; 14. Green Things; 15. Uncle Greens; 26. The Green Trunk; 28. Made Green; 31. Green Quality; 36. Shade’s Greenery; 38.

If several lottery-winning applicants are vying for the same address, whoever secures a lease will get the location and the others will have to find a new location within the city. The Liquor Control Board will grant a specific, yet unspecified time for such applicants to find a new location. If the business is disqualified during its screening process, then all applications will be taken out of the ranked order and the board will continue on to the next business on the list.

The independent double-blind process produced an ordered lists of applicants that the agency will use to continue its retail licensing process. If an applicant is within the maximum allotted number of stores for a jurisdiction but fails to pass the licensing process, the Liquor Control Board will withdraw the application and move to the next applicant on the list.

The lottery results don’t guarantee anyone a retail license and store. Applicants still must have their operations and financial plans approved and must pass criminal background checks. Then they have to build out their stores and pass final inspection before getting licensed. State officials expect to start issuing licenses by early July.
