Bothell joins Congress in declaring ‘Undergraduate Research Week’

Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb signed a resolution declaring the week of April 11-17 to be “Undergraduate Research Week.” The resolution, which was brought forth to the mayor’s office from the research office at the University of Washington, Bothell, echoes a similar declaration passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb signed a resolution declaring the week of April 11-17 to be “Undergraduate Research Week.”  The resolution, which was brought forth to the mayor’s office from the research office at the University of Washington, Bothell, echoes a similar declaration passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

According to the federal resolution, “undergraduate research is essential to pushing the nation’s innovation agenda forward by increasing the interest and persistence among young people in crucial science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.” The Bothell declaration states that “the fruits of such research can be witnessed throughout the city of Bothell’s high tech/biomedical corridor.”

To showcase the quality and scope of their work, UW-Bothell will hold an event on May 12 where eight undergraduate research projects will be highlighted. The faculty-led projects include work ranging from creative visualization in data mining to the use of molecular biology in analyzing bat and bird diets.
