Bothell Fire Fund assists 23 businesses, still taking donations

The Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce and the Northshore Rotary Club have raised nearly $100,000 to benefit the victims of the July fire on Main Street in downtown Bothell.

The Bothell Fire Fund Advisory Board, comprised of members from both community organizations, kicked its fundraising efforts off less than a week after the fire with the BFF Block Party, which raised more than $57,000 for the fund. Since then, the donations have continued to pour in for businesses and employees affected by the fire.

“We’re so thankful that this community has really stepped up big time,” said Bothell Chamber Executive Director Brittany Caldwell.

During the first three rounds of allocations, Caldwell said they’ve been able to distribute approximately $70,000 to 23 businesses and three employees.

“The business owners are so grateful,” Caldwell said.

Donations and applications for the money will continue to be accepted through Oct. 15, and the board will meet in early to November to decide how to disburse the funds.

Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 44, Bothell, WA 98041, with checks payable to Northshore Rotary with Bothell Fire Fund written in the memo line.

In addition to the fire fund, the city of Bothell has set up a Business Assistance Recovery Team (BART), which is co-located with the fire marshal’s office inside city hall.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The city is awaiting a report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Fire Chief Bob Van Horne said.
