Bothell annexation debate is now a community Q and A tonight

"Yes"-annexation group Citizens for a Better Bothell planned to hold a debate with "no"-annexation collection Citizens for Responsible Annexations on March 28, but a community question-and-answer session is now the focus of the meeting.

“Yes”-annexation group Citizens for a Better Bothell planned to hold a debate with “no”-annexation collection Citizens for Responsible Annexations on March 28, but a community question-and-answer session is now the focus of the meeting.

The North, East and West of Bothell Annexation (NEWBA) area of unincorporated Snohomish County will back on the ballot April 17.

Broadcasting mogul Pat O’Day was scheduled to moderate the debate, organized by the “yes” group, but the “no” side has chosen not to attend. According to Bud NcCorchuk — treasurer for the “no” group — in a recent letter to Patrick LeDoux of the “yes” side, his organization had no input in the debate location, ground rules, moderator and decorum. Additionally, they’ve chosen to talk with their citizen base face to face and through their Web site, political signs, mailers and phone calls.

According to the “yes” side in a press release: “It is disappointing but not surprising that the ‘no’ campaign has refused to debate despite being given three weeks notice and an open invitation to discuss format and participants.”

The event will feature Tom Turner of the “yes” campaign and Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb at 7 p.m. March 28 at Parkridge Community Church, 3805 Maltby Road, Bothell.
