The question of what two candidates will move on to the general election in November for Bothell City Council position 5 was answered Tuesday night. The question of who got the most votes was not.

Planning Commission member Steve Booth held a narrow lead against former City Councilwoman Tris Samberg in the first returns of the primary for both King and Snohomish counties.

So far Booth has garnered 47.7 percent of the vote and holds a 203-vote lead over Samberg, who has 42.2 percent of the vote.

“While there are still ballots to be counted, I am very humbled to have received the highest number of votes of those counted so far and to now know that our campaign will move on to the general election in November,” Booth said. “We believe that it is clear that our message of providing positive leadership you can trust, while safeguarding taxpayer dollars and protecting public safety has resonated with voters.”

Nadia Mustafa is earning 10 percent of the vote.

Position 5 is currently held by Patrick Ewing, who decided not to run for re-election.

The top two candidates will advance to the general election in November.

The election will be certified on Aug. 20.
