Bothell’s Page Ive received an Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Scholarship at the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) 33rd annual benefit dinner at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York City April 28.
Ive and Mackenzie Meyer of Rochester, NY, won scholarships. The high-school seniors submitted essays in a national contest coordinated by NCLD, discussing how their learning disability has impacted their lives. Both young women will receive $10,000 over the next four years to go toward their undergraduate studies.
Ford stated, “These women have shown great fortitude and courage in addressing their learning disabilities and not allowing themselves to be held back or defined by them. Page and Mackenzie are great role models for people of all ages who face daily learning challenges.”
Reflecting upon her own journey with learning disabilities, Ive saw the enormous unrealized potential of those who struggle with disabilities and who are less fortunate then herself. She became committed to promoting global equality and disability awareness with her involvement in Mobility International USA (MIUSA). This organization hosts teenagers with disabilities from Bahrain; and she traveled to Bahrain, as a consultant, to work with the program.
In Bothell, Ive is an active volunteer and has been instrumental in organizing a fully accessible theater program for children with disabilities.
In college, she plans to study environmental and earth science, and is determined to continue to be an advocate for others with disabilities.
