Cascadia announces recycling poster contest

Students enrolled in Cascadia College’s bachelor degree program in sustainable practices are hosting a poster contest aimed at promoting sensible recycling practices. Any student enrolled in a K-12 school in the Northshore, Lake Washington or Cedar View school districts or attending Cascadia or University of Washington Bothell are encouraged to participate.

“We’re challenging students of all ages to think up creative ways to promote recycling in their communities, schools, and homes by creating posters,” Justin Masi, a junior in Cascadia’s sustainable practices degree program, said.

To participate, send a PDF or jpeg of your original artwork, along with your name and school to jglavan@cascadia.edu. Details and further directions for participation can be found at www.cascadia.edu/discover/recycle.aspx. Submissions will be accepted now through April 14, and awards will be handed out at Cascadia College during Earth Week ceremonies on April 20.

The inspiration for the contest is a national competition known as RecycleMania, which is aimed at tracking waste and recycling levels on colleges and universities across the country. Cascadia entered the competition for the first time this year.

“We need to show a little more care for the earth,” Larry Walton, a Cascadia student pursuing a degree in sustainable practices, said. “Allowing all that recycling to end up in the landfill is just tossing away precious resources.”
