Editor’s note: This is a letter that was sent to Sen. Patty Murray’s (D-WA) office in Washington, D.C. regrading the comments she made about Alabama.

Sen. Murray,

Let me first of all tell you that I am a fellow working Democrat from “The Great State of Alabama” and I am appalled at the statement that you made Dec. 14 in your interview with NPR news, and I quote, “I would challenge anybody to tell me that they’ve stood on a line in Alabama and seen anybody build anything.”

Have you been in a hole somewhere? Do you not know that Alabama leads the nation in the automobile industry, with Hyundai, Mercedes, Toyota and Honda manufacturing plants and hundreds of auto tier-one suppliers? If these are not companies that require someone to “stand on the line” then I don’t know what is. Also, Alabama has numerous aerospace and defense companies, and that someone in Alabama “stood on the line” that built the rocket to take man to the moon.

On a personal level, especially my parents, who worked all their lives in an assembly plant making American clothing for Americans: My mother to this day has to take blood-thinning medication because of standing in that factory “on a line” for more than 37 years, so that blood clots from her legs want kill her.

You owe every working person in the state of Alabama an apology.
