Can we call what is happening in our democracy a crisis yet? In this August primary, only 22 percent of voters bothered to send in their ballots. And from what I am hearing, we will be lucky if 50 percent of voters to participate this November.
We need to make sure that voters feel confident that their ballot will be counted when they mail it in. There are enough excuses as it is not to vote, we do not need another one. The future of democracy in Washington is contingent on a fair and accurate voting system.
There is only one elected position in King County that is solely responsible for overseeing our democratic process, the director of elections. We need Zack Hudgins elected to director of King County Elections to make sure that we get new leadership with a vision to help steer our system of election back on course.
