The University of Washington, Bothell MBA (master of business administration) programs announce Juan Camilo Gomez, Ph.D., as the 2010 MBA Professor of the Year. Gomez, is an assistant business professor.
Gomez was selected by a vote of the 2010 MBA graduating class. Student Nathan Smith said, “Few things illustrate the captivation and enthusiasm exuded by Dr. Gomez more than the fact that 37 students regularly looked forward to his economics lectures each week, despite the fact that they were held between 8 o’clock and 10 o’clock at night. His lectures represented one of those rare occasions where I could feel my world view shifting. The thorough, colorful and genuine approach demonstrated by Dr. Gomez unarguably makes him one of the finest instructors at the University of Washington, Bothell’s Business Program.”
Upon accepting the award, Gomez said, “I believe success in the classroom is impossible without challenging students. Coupled with my passion for teaching, my approach is to expose students to complex economic models and a higher level of quantitative proficiency. But an even greater challenge is to go past the equations and gain economic intuition: make the material applicable to the everyday decisions a manager must make.”
Gomez earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota department of economics with minor fields in game theory and financial economics.
