The Bothell American Legion recently moved to a new home at 21920 Highway 9 S.E. in Woodinville. Despite the move, the organization’s goal is still the same; to help veterans, their families and youth in the community.

The group assists veterans and their families from Shoreline to Woodinville and Kirkland to Everett. It has a small hall for rent or use for civic events at the new location. Its new office is open Monday through Friday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.

“We are still involved in the same programs as in the past, sponsoring scouts, visiting the schools for Veterans’ Day programs, interviewing students for the girls and boys state programs every year,” said Bothell American Legion  No. 127 Commander Burt Marsh. “We hosted a scout jamboree last month and had a large turnout. We had air rifle shooting, fire building, cooking, rope skills and sportsmanship. We sponsor Legion baseball and the Civil Air Patrol. We have members that donate time to the state hunter education program and have for years.”

The service officer staff has expanded and now includes two state certified service officers to help the organization’s growing number of veterans requiring assistance.

“We are involved at the V.A. Hospital with a number of veterans program, bingo night, Christmas programs and others ventures as they arise,” said Marsh. “We represent all our veterans in the annual Bothell 4th of July parade.”

The organization also sends packages of needed items to soldiers, American Legion members and their family members, who are deployed overseas.

“We had our first square dancing event, we had talked about this for years, we had a good turnout,” said Marsh. “A lot of fun and dancing from ages 1 to Ruth and Carl in their 80s. Thanks to Nancy Larkin and her family! The comments afterward were ‘when can we do this again?'”
