A Northshore School District staff member spotted a black bear near Woodmoor Elementary in Bothell this morning, and that school along with nearby Northshore Junior High are in modified lockdowns as a precautionary measure, according to district communications director Leanna Albrecht.

“Students will stay inside today. We want to assure families that students are safe,” Albrecht said.

The staff member saw a black bear at around 11 a.m. at the edge of the parking lot and wander into the woods. Police and Fish and Wildlife were notified and are on site.

“We have canceled afterschool activities and sports at both schools, and we will not have students walking home. Parents of walkers can either pick up their child from school or the child will be transported home by bus. A letter will be going home,” Albrecht added.
