Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb and his wife, Kimberly, announced that they will be a fund-raising team in the Els for Autism 2011 Golf Challenge — the largest charity-driven national golf tournament in U.S. history — on June 6 at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
The tournament is the creation of professional golfer Ernie Els, who said of his decision to start this tournament, “Every once in a while a cause resonates so profoundly that we need to take action. Autism is just such a cause for me because I know firsthand what families go through. My 8-year-old son Ben is on the autism spectrum and I’ve been through all the stages from ‘why me’ to ‘why can’t I fix this?’ But autism does not affect just me; it is an epidemic affecting one in 110 people and their families.”
The Lambs’ daughter was diagnosed on the autism spectrum at the age of 3. “Hearing Ernie Els talk about the importance of raising both awareness of autism and funds to help those affected by it moved us to become involved in a public way. We are looking forward to participating in this fund-raiser and reaching out to other families in the Bothell community who have been touched by autism,” said Kimberly Lamb. Added Mayor Lamb: “We have been heartened by the response we’ve received so far from people in our community and beyond.”
