Washington Monthly ranked the University of Washington Bothell No. 13 of 233 colleges on its 2015 Best Bang for the Buck list in the western region. UW Bothell also tops the list of Masters institutions in Washington and the Pacific Northwest. Washington Monthly’s Best Bang for the Buck rates colleges that are “doing the best job of helping non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.”

The list is based on the three most recent years of equally weighted data from 1,540 public, private non-profit, and for-profit colleges. They evaluated institutions in three areas: “best value for the money based on net price, how well they do graduating the students they admit, and whether those graduates earn enough to at least pay off their loans.”

More than half of UW Bothell’s incoming first year students are first generation college students. Of the total student population, 35 percent are Pell-eligible and nearly two-thirds go on to graduate. According to Washington Monthly, that overall graduation rate is nearly 17 percentage points better than other schools with similar profiles. Half of all UW Bothell students graduate with no debt. The recent rankings tell the story of an institution dedicated to providing access to an affordable University of Washington education for students of great promise.

All three UW campuses ranked in the top 25 on Washington Monthly’s overall “Best Bang for the Buck” list with UW Seattle climbing to No. 1 and Tacoma, No. 22.

UW Bothell recently received high marks on Money magazine’s 2015-2016 list of best colleges, ranking first in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest for the second year in a row. Money also ranked UW Bothell No. 36 in its overall list of best public colleges – up one from No. 37 in 2014. The magazine ranked 736 colleges and universities on 21 measures in three categories: quality, affordability and outcomes.
