A last second three-point shot from Zach LaVine barely missed the mark Monday during the King Holiday Hoopfest at Seattle Pacific University’s Brougham Pavilion, as Bothell suffered its first loss of the season 66-63 to Rainier Beach.

The game was played in front of more than 2,500 spectators as a part of the annual Martin Luther King holiday hoops spectacular, which annually features the best teams in the state.

LaVine finished with a game high 34 points, despite waking up with a 103-degree temperature. The senior and UCLA recruit fought hard during the fourth quarter to bring the Cougars back from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit, scoring eight points during the final two minutes of the game. But the Cougars’ came up just short as LaVine missed two three-pointers inside of 20 seconds, including one at the buzzer.

The Vikings began the game with a 13-8 advantage during the first quarter and slowly built on that lead. The Cougars fell to eight points in the red by halftime. A defensive third quarter saw Beach increase their lead.

Josh Martin and Perrion Callendret contributed 12 points each for Bothell.

The loss to Rainier Beach (14-4) drops Bothell (15-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten teams in Washington state.

Rainier Beach is ranked No. 2 in class 3A, while Bothell is ranked No. 1 in 4A.
