Jim McGaughey and Bob Meador were sworn-in as fire commissioners at the Snohomish County Fire District 1 Board of Commissioners meeting Dec. 3.
McGaughey is new to the five-member board, which is responsible for governing the county’s largest fire district. He was elected in November to a six-year term in Commissioner Position 4, the seat Meador has held for the past six years. Meador ran for and was elected to Commissioner Position 1 to replace Karen Dingmon, who was appointed to the vacant position last February.
At the Dec. 3 meeting, Meador stepped down from Position 4 and was sworn-in to serve the remaining two years of the term in Position 1. The board then unanimously voted to appoint McGaughey to fill the vacancy in Position 4 through the end of the year when his six-year term begins.
“I am excited about being Fire District 1’s newly elected and recently appointed commissioner for Position 4,” McGaughey said. “This will offer me an opportunity to be a member of a highly professional fire service organization and a member of a board that is working hard for the citizens that we serve. My commitment to the community and to Fire District 1 is to be a hard-working leader that will use rational solutions to solving economic and fire service-related problems.”
McGaughey is a retired deputy fire chief with 27 years of fire service experience. He teaches a fire service technology class for high school students in the Edmonds School District.
Meador said he is looking forward to continuing to work with his fellow board members and the staff of Fire District 1 to deliver high quality fire and emergency medical services. Meador has 30 years of fire service experience, including six years as a fire chief.
Fire District 1 provides fire and emergency medical services to nearly 200,000 residents in unincorporated south Snohomish County, Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway.
The Board of Commissioners is responsible for defining the fire district’s long-term vision and for adopting policies to be implemented by administrative staff.
Regular board meetings take place on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Fire District 1 Headquarters, 12425 Meridian Avenue, Everett. Meetings are open to the public. Live video stream is available at www.firedistrict1.org.
