As drivers may have noticed by now, Snohomish County Public Works has shut down Swamp Creek Bridge No. 505 on Lockwood Road at the King County-Snohomish County border.

The closure went into effect Feb. 17 and will continue until March 6.

At least one brief closure happened earlier this month. But the current closure will remain in effect 24 hours a day for the time period noted. The county announced that repairs to the bridge will be made during the closure.

Snohomish County officials closed one lane of the bridge after an inspection done in January uncovered deterioration under the bridge decking.

Designed to accommodate two lanes of traffic, the concrete and timber bridge was built in 1968. Snohomish County estimates some 3,400 vehicles pass over the bridge every day.

During the closure, the county recommends the following detour: From Lockwood/Carter Road, head to 66th Avenue Northeast, to Northeast 202nd Street, to 68th Avenue Northeast, to Northeast 182nd Street, to 73rd Avenue Northeast, to Northeast 204th Street.
