A string of three solid performances by outside hitter and Bothell resident Haley Bedell during Pacific’s recent Bay Area road trip has earned the junior selection as the Northwest Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week. The honor, as selected by the conference’s sports information directors, was announced on Tuesday.

Bedell led the Boxers with 16 kills, a .279 hitting percentage, nine digs and nine aces in three matches as Pacific went 2-1 in three matches against UC Santa Cruz, Caltech and Mills over the weekend. She averaged two kills, 1.12 aces and 1.12 digs per set during the road trip.
“Haley has a very efficient weekend on the court,” said Pacific head coach Kip Yoshimura. “At times, she was dominant at the net offensively and she provided many scoring opportunities with her serve and backcourt defense.  She has evolved into a great leader and I know we are a better team because of her.”
Bedell finished with eight kills, two aces and six digs against UC Santa Cruz on Friday. She did not have any kills in Saturday’s opener against Caltech, but did her part with four aces. Bedell returned to high offensive form in the nightcap against Mills, finishing with eight kills, a .667 hitting percentage and three aces.
After sitting out the 2013 season, Bedell has emerged as one of the Boxers’ top outside hitters. She enters the week leading the NWC with 0.78 service aces per set and is second with her 18 total aces. She also ranks sixth in the NWC with her average of 2.57 kills per set, second best for the Boxers.
Bedell and the Boxers finished their non-conference schedule with a 4-4 record. Pacific opens NWC play on Friday at George Fox before returning home for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, hosting Lewis and Clark at 7 p.m.
