With community and sponsor participation, the annual Light a Fire for Learning Luncheon presented by the Northshore Schools Foundation hopes to raise more than $75,000 this year. The foundation is seeking corporate sponsorships to contribute financially to the event set for May 25 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.
Adam Cornell, Woodinville High graduate and current special assistant US attorney for Western Washington, will be the keynote speaker. Cornell has a long history of a passion for volunteerism, public service and advocacy for children. He is also involved as an advisory boardmember for the center for Children & Youth Justice and is a boardmember for the Snohomish County Boys & Girls Club. Cornell is a former Peace Corps volunteer and Boys & Girls Club 1990 National Youth of the Year.
Andy Wappler was recently announced as luncheon emcee. Wappler is currently the director of corporate communications at Puget Sound Energy and was previously chief meteorologist at KIRO-TV.
Proceeds raised through the event will fund classroom grants, as well as curriculum materials for all 30 Northshore schools and to support teachers earning their national board certification.
