The following is a release from Snohomish County:

Snohomish County Executive John Lovick hired Dr. Daniel Selove as the county’s new chief medical examiner. Selove’s tenure as chief medical examiner begins this week.

Selove has an extensive professional background in forensic pathology and has worked with coroners and medical examiner’s offices all around the state. He served as associate medical examiner in the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office from 1994 to 1998, and again from October 2014 until present.

“I’m glad to have Dr. Selove as our new chief medical examiner,” Executive Lovick said. “This office does important work vital to the wellbeing of our communities. We’ve made great strides the last year moving this office forward and I want to continue down that path.”

Dan Christman, former deputy director of the medical examiner’s office, will continue in his temporary transition role until July 16. He joined the medical examiner’s office in September.  His position was eliminated by the county council in April.

“Dan’s contribution to this office has made all the difference,” Lovick said. “I’m very grateful to him for his service to this county.”

Selove is responsible for all operations of the medical examiner’s office, including performing forensic medical work and autopsies, as well as supervision of an 11-person staff. The primary purpose of the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office is to determine the cause and manner of death in specific cases that are of concern to the public’s health, safety and welfare.
