Inglemoor High junior Jacob Liedle feels there’s nothing like playing in a championship game.

For the second consecutive season, that’s the terrain the Vikings stood upon at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. Last year, Inglemoor won the 4A KingCo title, and this time out the locals played in the Wes-King District championship tilt, losing 6-4 to Skyline on Saturday. Both teams advance to state.

“It’s always exciting to play a team that’s equally as good. It just makes the game so much more fun because it’s so much more precise,” said Liedle, who delivered two singles and an RBI against Skyline.

Inglemoor — who beat Jackson and Cascade leading up to the title contest — trailed Skyline, 5-0, after three innings, but the Viks weren’t done for the evening as they soon revved up their offense.

With a triple from Sean Kauffman, singles from Sean Mulcare, Eunsang Yu and Liedle along with RBI groundouts from Zach Hedge and Trevor Thurman in the top of the fourth inning, Inglemoor trailed, 5-3. Inglemoor added another run in the fifth on singles from Sam Hollenbeck and Kauffman and a throwing error.

Liedle said the Vikings handle adversity well and that’s what drove them to get back in the game.

“I feel like we have a really good team atmosphere, everybody really supports each other. On offense and defense, we’ve just been working to be really mentally tough and to just not give in,” he said.

The 4A state tournament will begin May 18, when Inglemoor plays Skyview at 10 a.m. at Heritage Park in Puyallup.
