Identity theft: At 2:58 p.m. in the 19100 block of 107th Place Northeast, a woman reported that she was the victim of financial fraud. An unknown suspect had produced fraudulent personal checks using her personal information and her US Bank account number. She was alerted to it when her bank sent her a text message informing her that she only had $200 left in her checking account.

March 13

Theft: At 12:41 p.m. in the 22000 block of 4th Place West, a victim’s card was used to purchase tickets online not approved by the victim. They bought more than $1,000 in tickets. The bank canceled the cards and a fraud investigation was initiated.

PayPal shenanigans: At 8:07 p.m. in the 24100 block of 16th Avenue Southeast, someone opened a PayPal credit account using someone else’s information. The victim found out about the credit line when they received a letter on the new account. The total charged on the account in the first day was $1,426.

Spring stealing: At 9:36 p.m. in the 10900 block of Northeast 157th Street, someone stole a victim’s vacuum cleaner from their front door. The Ontrack company reported that it was delivered at 8:20 p.m. The victim was home but there was no knock on the door.

March 14

Bank security dilemma: At 2:06 p.m. in the 2900 block of 211th Street Southeast, a female caller, using spoof technology, called representing themselves as an official from KeyBank. She identified herself as being part of the fraud department and was questioning two flagged suspicious transactions that had been placed against the victim’s account. For the majority of the call, the fraudster only asked for verification of information, and had the victim read two codes sent to their cell phone. After the second code was read, the remaining $380 in the victim’s account was stolen through a Zelle transaction.

March 15

Visa stolen: At 8:46 a.m. in the 15700 block of 116th Avenue Northeast, someone prowled through a victim’s car, taking two passports, his student visa and miscellaneous documents.
