The city of Bothell will receive nearly $4.54 million in federal funding from the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) for three road and trail projects with the goal to improve local and regional mobility.

The PSRC has approved the funding; final approval by the governor and federal funding agencies is expected in early 2019. Funding will come from the Federal Highway Administration.

“We’re very excited about these grants. The money will help us move forward on three projects that are critical to the residents of Bothell,” said public works director Erin Leonhart in a press release.

The funding is for the following projects: A Bothell Way widening from 240th Street Southeast to Reder Way with two separate awards of $2.27 million and $600,000, both for the design phase; an overlay project for Juanita-Woodinville Way to Northeast 160th Street with a $750,000-award for construction; and a $919,910-award for construction of North Creek Trail Section 4 Phase 1.

Funds for design of the Bothell Way widening project will be available in 2022 and design work is expected to begin then. Construction of the Juanita-Woodinville Way Northeast pavement overlay and North Creek Trail would begin in 2021 when funds are available.

PSRC’s merit-based project selection process is rigorous the press release states. The projects are part of a $6.4 billion transportation improvement program for 2019-22 that includes state highway improvements, light rail and bus rapid transit service, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and investments in city and county roads.
