Third victim of alleged Bothell Library child molester is identified

A third victim of an alleged child molester who struck at the Bothell Library has been identified, according to Capt. Denise Langford, a spokesperson for the Bothell police department.

Late last month, local police made a public appeal for anyone with information about suspicious activity at the city’s branch of the King County Library to step forward. Police were looking for help with finding a man who allegedly fondled two female children, both age 7, at the library.

Citing that the case is open and ongoing, Langford declined to say if police had identified any suspects since making the public request. She did say that after that appeal appeared in the media, the family of a third victim came forward. Like the others, Langford said the third victim was a young girl, again age 7.

In the first two cases, police said that the victims were contacted by a white male adult with brown hair who allegedly fondled each girl after appearing to want to be helpful. The man was a stranger to the victims. Police added that in each of the first two cases reported, the suspect approached the victims and initiated conversation while the victims’ parents were in the library, but away from their children.

In one of the first two reported incidents, the suspect was believed to have been accompanied by a white juvenile female with blonde hair and about the same age as the victims.

Police and a library official have said they know of no other similar incidents at area libraries. A spokesperson for the library system, Julie Brand, said the last such incident at the library took place about seven years ago.

According to Brand, Bothell branch staff did not witness either of the first reported incidents. In both cases, she said, the children involved told their parents. In one case, Brand believes, library authorities ended up notifying police, while in the other, a parent made that call.

Bothell police invited anyone with information on any of the incidents to call the Bothell Police Tip Line at (425) 487-5551. In a press release, officials added any library visitors should not hesitate to report suspicious persons or activities by calling 911.
