A Northshore School District paraeducator and Bothell resident has been identified as the victim of a shooting in Belfair, Wash. Nathanial Rosa was killed on Saturday morning while he was showering, Mason County Sheriff Department officials said.
Detectives said that Bruce Fanning, a 59-year-old resident of Mason County, owns two houses on the same lot, located at 1520 E Trails Road – one he uses for his residence and one for his internet-based business. He allegedly saw signs of forced entry to his business and the front door wide open on Saturday morning and walked inside. He then found Rosa, a stranger, in the shower and confronted the Bothell man, telling him to leave.
Fanning left the place of business and returned to his residence nearby where he retrieved a .45-caliber hand gun.
“He then returned to his place of business, found Rosa still showering, made no verbal comments, shot four times killing Rosa in the shower,” a Sheriff’s spokesman wrote in a release.
Court documents state that Rosa has no criminal record and was shot three times with the curtain drawn.
Fanning, who has been charged with second-degree murder on Monday, then called 911 to report his and Rosa’s actions. He also told detectives he thought Rosa was drunk and he was afraid.
Rosa had worked for the Northshore School District for nearly two years.
“After many years of experience serving children and young adults in group home settings, Nate was hired as a paraeducator at Woodmoor in July 2015,” Nortshore School District Superintendent Michelle Reid said. “Most recently he served as a one-to-one paraeducator in our Functional Skills and Academics program, and he served as a member of Woodmoor’s Leadership Team. This is a devastating loss for our school community.”
