LuAlice (Wilson) Calkins
August 20, 1921 to May 6, 2016

LuAlice Calkins, 94, of Kenmore, Washington passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 in the presence of her family.
She was a loving teacher, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and had a caring community of friends from her long-time church. In her retirement, LuAlice loved playing piano, singing hymns, volunteering at church, and spending time with her growing family. As her son Mark says, “Mom was a great teacher, to us and others, because she taught with love and taught us how to love by example”.
LuAlice was born on August 20, 1921 in Spokane, Washington to the late Lucia Annie Bisbee Wilson and James Young Wellington Wilson. She was the second oldest child but the oldest daughter with four younger siblings she doted on. After graduating from West Valley High School, she went to secretary school and attended Whitworth College and Washington State College to obtain a Home Economics Degree with a minor in Chemistry. She also received a teaching certificate.
It was in 1949 that she met her husband, the late Loring Gary Calkins Junior. They were married for 59 years. LuAlice is preceded in death by her husband and three of her siblings. She is survived by two brothers, Charles Wilson and James Wilson; her four children, Larry Calkins, Bob Calkins, Mark Calkins and Lucinda Pearson. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on May 21st at Purdy & Walters, Floral Hills Cemetery, located at 409 Filbert Road Lynnwood, WA 98036. The Memorial Service, will be held in the chapel, at 11:00 AM with a graveside service immediately following. A viewing for LuAlice will be held prior to the memorial service at 10:00 am.
