During the week of April 24-30, the local marketing team traveled to Atlanta, Ga., for the 62nd annual International Career and Development Conference. And the locals beat out squads from all 50 states, Canada, Germany, Puerto Rico and Guam for the title.

The conference consists of 34 different business/marketing events where students write reports on specific businesses or solve case studies. In both situations, the marketers present their solutions to professional businessmen and businesswomen (the judges) in a role-play environment.

According to Dennis Rockwood, Inglemoor DECA adviser, “DECA competition is the varsity sport of business, and the attitude among the marketers is electric. National competition is as intense as any high-school sporting event.”

Inglemoor traveled with 38 competitors, 21 of whom were recognized on stage.

Here’s the first-place individual results:

• Bo Uuganbayar, marketing management

• Di Yang, Internet marketing

• Beryl Yan, Internet marketing

Other team members are: Samantha Rhone, Adriene DeLeuw, Morgan Wiese, Thomas Mooney-Myers, Stefan Lungren, Corey Noyes, Lance Larsen, Craig Olynyk, Aaron Coombs, Danny Howe, Jenny Chen, Philina Yee, Christina Rasor, Ben Nystrom, Stanley Wang, Tucker Ludy, Shaun Withers and Stevie Jones.

Rhone, a second-place winner and Inglemoor retail-operations manager, said, “The event requires that each student demonstrate proficiency in solving business situations in selected career path industries.”

Rockwood added, “This was a team effort by everyone; students and chaperones. Each win was both for the individual marketer and the entire Inglemoor DECA chapter. I’m excited for the entire national team. They worked and demonstrated excellent teamwork both in and out of competition.”
