Bothell High football coach Tom Bainter has been selected as one of 10 coaches nationwide to be on USA Football’s Junior National Team.
Bainter, who is 76-20 in more than eight seasons with the Cougars, will coach the team’s running backs during competition next summer in Canton, Ohio.
“On behalf of the city of Bothell, I extend our congratulations to coach Bainter,” said City Manager Bob Stowe. “His commitment to his work, these players, his team and this community is unparalleled. The Junior National Team is fortunate to have coach Bainter.”
According to the International Federation of American Football (IFAF)’s Web site, six nations have confirmed their participation for next year’s championship.
Football
Bothell trounced Lake Washington, 49-0, last Friday in a 4A Kingco game on the strength of seven touchdowns. Running back Patrick Ottorbech scored three times on runs, and Mitchell Muller connected with Perry Conricode and Kurt Stottlemyer for two early scores.
Bothell had 296 rushing yards compared to the Kangs’ 47, and improved its league record to 2-0 after starting the season with two non-conferences losses to Prosser and Bellevue.
The Cougars have returned to form as of late, outscoring their opponents 91-0 in the last two games they’ve played.
• Inglemoor also shut out Ballard, 23-0, at Memorial Stadium last Thursday. It was Inglemoor’s first conference win as the Vikings improved their record to 3-1 on the year.
Boys golf
Bothell beat Inglemoor by five strokes in a 4A Kingco match at Inglewood Country Club last Monday by a score of 230-235. For Bothell, John Pechan medaled with an even-par 37, and Jeff Jordal shot 43. Low score for Inglemoor was James Hicks with a four-over-par 41, and Chris Canfield carded a 46.
Girls soccer
Bothell and Inglemoor both lost their league soccer matches last Thursday. Inglemoor fell to the Issaquah Eagles, 3-0, and Woodinville shut out Bothell, 1-0. The losses dropped the Vikings to 1-2-3 on the season, and the Cougars fell to 0-4-2.
Volleyball
Visiting Bothell shut out Lake Washington in a 4A Kingco match last Thursday, 3-0. Bothell outscored the Kangs 75-31 during the three games to improve its conference record to 2-0.
For Bothell, setting specialist Anna Buck had 30 assists to go along with five service aces, junior Zoe Iida had 30 digs and senior outside hitter Charnele Odingo had 11 kills at the net.
• Visiting Inglemoor beat Garfield last Thursday, 3-0, with game scores of 25-20, 25-10 and 25-17. Tess Parent was credited with 27 assists, senior standout libero Kendra Cotton had 12 digs, outside hitter Jasmine Roe had 13 kills and sophomore Emily Anderson did a little of everything for the Vikings with six digs, seven service aces and 10 digs.
It was Inglemoor’s first victory of the season and improved the Vikings’ overall record to 1-3.
