University of Washington, Bothell assistant professor Wayne Au will be part of a forum on public education in America titled “Kids are More Than a Test Score.”
The event will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Rigott Auditorium at Seattle University.
The forum’s special guest is Diane Ravitch, former assistant secretary of education. During the event, she will discuss her latest book, “The Death and Life of the Great American School System,” and talk about her latest switch in views regarding charters, choice and high-stakes testing.
In addition to her keynote speech, there will also be an opportunity for a panel of educators, including Au, to participate in a discussion about America’s school system.
Currently Au teaches in the education program, focusing his courses on social studies education. Of the forum, Au says, “I’m excited to be a part of a panel that defends teachers and public education against the anti-democratic reforms that are being implemented in Seattle Public Schools and that are sweeping the country today.”
